<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="fr">Jusqu'à présent, les études éthiques et théologiques sur la souffrance ont été largement centrées sur des questions telles que le péché, la culpabilité, la stigmatisation et la honte. Nous admettons l'hypothèse que souffrir d'une maladie chronique peut être une expérience d’anéantissement. Néanmoins, à travers les récits humains de ceux qui ont souffert et survécu, voire mûri à travers l’expérience, nous avons pu identifier les facteurs qui permettent une maturation à travers la souffrance. De tels facteurs peuvent être systématiquement décrits et stratégiquement renforcés dans trois dimensions de la vie humaine à la manière d'une périchorèse trinitaire. Ces dimensions de la maturation humaine à travers la souffrance sont : 1. La dimension individuelle (corporéité, psycho-subjectivité, identité). 2. La dimension relationnelle (intimité, communauté et institutions). 3. La dimension métaphysique (moralité, temporalité, spiritualité).</dcterms:abstract>
<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">Suffering from chronic diseases like HIV-AIDS raises a number of moral and theological concerns. Until now, studies have been largely centred on such negative issues as sin, guilt, stigma, and shame. Our study examines whether a positive theology of maturation through suffering can be scientifically substantiated. We have theorized here that while suffering can be annihilating, we can identify elements of healing and factors of growth in the use of narratives, factors that can then be systemically outlined and strategically boosted across the three dimensions of human life in the manner of a trinitarian perichoresis. These dimensions can be categorized as follows: 1. The Individual dimension (corporeality, psycho- subjectivity, identity); 2. The Relational dimension (intimacy, community, and institutionality); 3. The Metaphysical dimension (morality, temporality, spirituality).</dcterms:abstract>
