Nous abordons la prolifération des discours sur l’IC dans les années 2000 par le biais de leur lien avec la notion d’Anthropocène, popularisée par le prix Nobel de chimie Paul Crutzen. L’analyse de ces discours révèle l’articulation de plusieurs thèmes récurrents : l’inefficacité des mesures politiques d’atténuation, le catastrophisme, le rôle accordé à l’humanité dans les récits de maîtrise du climat (et donc dans le futur), et enfin l’IC comme concrétisation de cette promesse de maîtrise. Dans un second temps, nous montrons, à travers deux exemples (celui d’un ingénieur-chercheur, David Keith, et celui d’un think tank, l’American Enterprise Institute), l’intrication, chez les acteurs prônant le recours à l’IC, du scientifique et du politique, de l’expertise et du militantisme. Le discours expert permet dès lors de construire un monde dans lequel se dessine un futur possible de maîtrise technologique du climat, vision dans laquelle les scientifiques et ingénieurs sont érigés au rang d'administrateurs de l'environnement global. Through qualitative discourse analysis, this work uncovers the discursive processes by which scientific and expert discourses on climate engineering (CE) tend to "make worlds". We study the proliferation of discourses on CE in the 2000s through their link to the notion of Anthropocene, popularized by Nobel Prize winner Paul Crutzen. The analysis of these discourses reveals the articulation of several recurrent themes: the ineffectiveness of mitigation policies, catastrophism, the role granted to humankind in narratives of climate control (and thus, of the future), and finally CE as the fulfillment of this promise of control. Through two case studies (that of an engineerresearcher, David Keith, and that of a think tank, the American Enterprise Institute), we show the intertwining of science and politics, of expertise and activism, among the actors advocating the use of CE. The expert discourse thus makes it possible to build a world in which a possible future of technological control of the climate takes shape, a vision in which scientists and engineers are elevated to the rank of administrators of the global environment.
