Dans une région où ce champ d’étude est rarement pris en considération, la ville romaine de Briga (Eu, Bois-l’Abbé, 76) offre un cas d’étude exceptionnel. En effet, la qualité de la documentation permet de caractériser les choix architecturaux des programmes édilitaires publics entre le début du Ier siècle de notre ère et le milieu du IIIe siècle. Alors que les complexes monumentaux des agglomérations du territoire sont encore souvent considérés comme des anomalies, l’étude architecturale interroge la composition et l’évolution de cet ensemble public pendant près de deux siècles et demi. L’analyse du processus de monumentalisation de Briga offre, en outre, la possibilité de comprendre la fonction de ces édifices publics, les liens organiques qu’ils entretiennent et la manière dont, ensemble, ils constituent un paysage monumental. This research is part of a renewed approach in the study of monumental complexes in the north of the Tres Galliae during the imperial period. In a region where this field of study is rarely taken into consideration, the Roman town of Briga (Eu, Bois-l’Abbé, 76) offers an exceptional case study. The quality of the sources allows for the characterization of the architectural choices for the public programmes of the aediles between the early 1st century and mid-3rd century AD. Even though monumental complexes of the agglomerations in this territory are still often considered as anomalies, this architectural study examines the composition and evolution of the complex for almost two and a half centuries. The analysis of Briga’s process of monumentalization also offers the possibility to understand the function of these public buildings, the organic connections between them, and the way in which, together, they constitute a monumental landscape.
