Dans un contexte de compétition nationale et internationale, la (re)création de l’Université de Strasbourg consiste à former une université forte et « managérialisée » qui participe à la division du paysage universitaire français en deux pôles, d’un côté des universités dites de recherche intensive (comprehensive universy) et d’un autre côté, des universités dites d’enseignement. Finalement, si la fusion des universités strasbourgeoises conduit à l’élaboration d’une identité, à la rationalisation de ses activités et à la définition d’une structure hiérarchique, une question émerge : l’Université de Strasbourg ne serait-elle pas une organisation bureaucratique et managériale comme les autres organisations ? Marked by the renewal of the configuration ‘State, profession, university’ since the late eighties, this thesis studies the changes in universities and their particularities during the merging process of the three universities of Strasbourg (2001-2009). In a nationally and internationally competitive environment, the (re)creation of the University of Strasbourg involves shaping a strong and ‘managerialised’ university contributing to the division of the French university landscape into two poles, on one hand comprehensive universities, on the other hand universities offering predominantly courses. Ultimatly, if the merging of the three universities of Strasbourg has led to the creation of an identity, to the rationalisation of its activities and to the definition of a hierachical structure, there emerges a question : could we not say that the University of Strasbourg is a bureaucratic and managerial organisation like other organisations ?
