<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="fr">Dans les Colloques, Érasme pose un regard critique sur la société en général, mais fait preuve d’une certaine bienveillance envers les femmes. Ses personnages féminins se distinguent le plus souvent par le respect qu’ils inspirent. Érasme combat en effet la misogynie ordinaire qui s’aggrave à la Renaissance et il reconnaît aux femmes une certaine égalité avec les hommes. Mais comment vérifier au plus près ce que l’on admet traditionnellement comme une évidence, à savoir la sympathie d’Érasme pour la cause des femmes, et sa volonté de leur légitimation sociale et religieuse ?L’analyse des voix féminines dans les colloques choisis, précédée d’une étude du dialogue et de la construction des personnages depuis l’Antiquité jusqu’à l’époque d’Érasme, permet de répondre à ces questions. L’examen des cinq colloques met en lumière un certain nombre de stéréotypes misogynes (du point de vue de notre époque), des réticences ou des jugements qui limitent le rôle des femmes dans la sphère privée ou publique. Sans remettre en question l’idéal féminin d’Érasme et sa promotion d’une nouvelle dignité pour « le deuxième sexe », ces jugements, qui sont aussi le reflet de la société de son époque, nuancent en profondeur des personnages parfois déroutants, peu chrétiens, loin de ce que l’on a pu en dire.</dcterms:abstract>
<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">Throughout the Colloquies, Erasmus takes a critical view of society in general, but shows a certain benevolence towards women. His female characters are most often distinguished by the respect they inspire. Indeed, Erasmus fights against the ordinary misogyny that persisted or worsened during the Renaissance and he recognizes a certain equality of rights between women and men. But how can we evaluate what is traditionally taken for granted, namely Erasmus' sympathies for the cause of women and his determination to promote their social and religious legitimacy?The analysis of the selected colloquies, preceded by a study of the dialogue and the construction of characters from Antiquity to Erasmus' time, helps to answer these questions. The examination of the texts we have chosen to study brings to light a certain number of misogynistic stereotypes (from the point of view of our time), reticences or judgements that limit the role of women in the private or public sphere. Without questioning Erasmus' feminine ideal and his promotion of a new dignity for 'the Second Sex', these judgements, which are also a reflection of the society of his time, bring useful nuance to the characters which are sometimes startling, un-christian, and far from what is generally said about them.</dcterms:abstract>
