La radio et la télévision, bouleversant l’écosystème médiatique dans lequel elle évolue, eurent aussi un impact sur sa production picturale et ses photomontages. Pour explorer ce jeu complexe d’influences, cette thèse aborde l’évolution de l’iconographie des techniques dans l’œuvre de Höch. Elle constate qu’après la période dadaïste, caractérisée par une riche iconographie mécanique où l’objet technique révèle les profondes mutations sociales du début du siècle, la disparition de la technique dans les photomontages höchiens n’est qu’apparente. Elle s’explique en partie par la volonté de l’artiste d’émanciper le photomontage des arts appliqués et par l’évolution de son matériau (le magazine), mais aussi par l’intériorisation du paradigme de la technique. A l’occasion de la conquête spatiale notamment, Höch réalise une série d’œuvres abordant le rôle des ondes radios et évoquant les modalités de la visibilité de l’évènement donné en partage par l’image télévisée. Hannah Höch’s almost exclusive use of photographic reproductions from magazines in her photomontages bears witness to her daily involvement with the media. Radio and television, disrupting the usual media ecosystem in which she evolved, also had an impact on her paintings and photomontages. In order to explore this complex set of influences, this thesis addresses the evolution of the iconography of techniques in Höch’s work. It observes that after the Dadaist period, characterized by a rich mechanical iconography in which the technical object reveals the profound social changes of the beginning of the century, the disappearance of technique in Höch’s works is only apparent. It can be explained in part by the artist’s desire to emancipate photomontage from the applied arts and by the evolution of its material (the magazine), but also by the assimilation of the paradigm of technique itself. During the conquest of space in particular, Höch produced a serie of works dealing with the role of radio waves and referring to the modalities of visibility of the event shared by television broadcasts.
