Théorie de l'architecture Comme tout fragment de ce monde, les matériaux subissent un phénomène de vieillissement inéluctable et laissent apparaître les marques du temps sur leurs surfaces. Au XIXᵉ siècle, la patine et les traces d’usure étaient des sources d'admiration pour les philosophes, poètes, écrivains, architectes, artistes… Ils voyaient dans le vieillissement des bâtiments un aspect pittoresque et poétique, exprimant le passage du temps et la nostalgie. C’est aussi la manifestation du cycle de la genèse et de la disparition, offrant ainsi une lecture authentique de l'histoire d’un bâtiment. Au XXᵉ et XXIᵉ siècle, suite au changement de paradigmes et à la modification de la perception des marques de l’âge en Occident, maints architectes se sont émancipés des effets imparables du temps sur leurs édifices. Dans quelle mesure cette posture risque-t-elle de mettre en péril le concept architectural ? À l’heure où les bâtiments sans marque d’âge correspondent aux archétypes de la société contemporaine, quelle place prend la plastique du vieillissement dans la conception architecturale ? Et comment la complicité avec le temps peut-elle être bénéfique au concept et à la plastique d’une architecture ? Like any fragment of this world, the materials undergo an inevitable aging phenomenon and reveal the marks of time on their surfaces. In the 19th century, the patina and traces of aging were sources of admiration for philosophers, poets, writers, architects, and artists... They saw in the aging of buildings a picturesque and poetic aspect, expressing the passage of time and nostalgia. It is also the manifestation of the cycle of genesis and disappearance, thus offering an authentic reading of the history of a building. In the 20th and 21st century, following the change of paradigms and the modification of the perception of the marks of age in the West, many architects have emancipated themselves from the unstoppable effects of time on their buildings. To what extent does this posture risk to endanger the architectural concept ? At a time when buildings with no sign of age correspond to the archetypes of contemporary society, what place does the plastics of aging have in architectural design ? Moreover, how can complicity with time be beneficial to the concept and plasticity of an architecture ?
