Il comprend un important volet théorique et méthodologique. Nous avons en effet élaboré une méthode d’analyse individuelle des structures destinée à reconstituer leur histoire et leur fonctionnement, et appliquée grâce à des grilles de lecture intégrant les résultats de nombreuses expérimentations disponibles dans la littérature et jusqu’alors peu mobilisés. Nous proposons par ailleurs un protocole d’analyse des pierres chauffantes composant le comblement de certains dispositifs, ainsi qu’une approche de terrain puisqu’il apparaît qu’un réel travail interprétatif n’est envisageable qu’à condition qu’un certain nombre d’éléments discriminants soit enregistré lors de la fouille. Outre l’analyse individuelle, le corpus a fait l’objet d’une analyse globale à but typologique et fonctionnel à laquelle s’ajoute une véritable étude ethnologique à part entière, réalisée en parallèle du travail archéologique proprement dit et permettant notamment d’aborder l’épineuse question de la fonction. Notons enfin que les structures quadrangulaires à pierres chauffées se sont distinguées à plusieurs reprises des autres types de dispositifs du corpus et ont donc fait l’objet d’un développement particulier tout au long de ce travail, et notamment d’un inventaire élargi englobant la période Néolithique et, d’un point de vue géographique, la Suisse, l’Allemagne, l’Espagne et l’Italie. Ce recensement démontre l’existence, à une échelle européenne, de sites spécialisés caractérisés par la présence exclusive de ces fosses de taille et d’organisation standardisées, mais dont les modalités d’usage demandent encore à être définies. The present thesis is devoted to the study of protohistoric combustion structures discovered in domestic contexts in eastern France, that is the regions Grand-Est and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It has an important theoretical and methodological component. Indeed, we have developed a method of individual analysis of the structures aimed at reconstructing their history and functioning, and applied it thanks to reading grids incorporating the results of numerous experiments available in the literature and hitherto little used. We also defined a protocol for the analysing of the heating stones that make up the filling of certain devices, as well as a field approach, since it appears that real interpretative work is only possible if a certain number of discriminating elements are recorded during the excavation. In addition to the individual analysis, we also realised a global analysis for typological and functional purposes, and carried out - besides the archaeological work and especially to address the thorny question of function - a detailed and intercultural ethnological study. Finally, it should be noted that the quadrangular structures filled with heated stones were distinguished on several occasions from the other types of devices and were therefore the subject of a particular development throughout our work, and in particular of an extended inventory encompassing the Neolithic period and structures discovered in the rest of France, in Switzerland, Germany, Spain and Italy. This inventory demonstrates the existence, on a European scale, of specialised sites characterised by the exclusive presence of these pits of standardised size and organisation, but whose modalities of use still need to be defined.
