Ce travail de thèse traite de l’étude des établissements de hauteur du Rhin supérieur entre le Hallstatt A2 et La Tène D2. Les problématiques ont porté sur les formes et fonctions de ces établissements ainsi que sur le rôle pouvant leur être attribué au sein des études sur l’organisation des territoires et des sociétés. L’étude s’est déroulée en trois temps : d’abord une reprise détaillée des données archéologiques, ensuite une caractérisation des modalités d’implantation à l’aide d’un SIG, aboutissant à une catégorisation synthétisant les observations réalisées. Les différentes catégories obtenues ont servi de base à analyse de l’évolution du phénomène sur le temps long. Données archéologiques et modalités d’implantation ont enfin été confrontées, permettant ensuite l’analyse de la répartition spatiale des sites de hauteur et la synthèse de l’ensemble des résultats obtenus, de même que leur remise en contexte plus global dans l’évolution des sociétés protohistoriques nord-alpines.
This thesis deals with the study of hilltop settlements on the Upper Rhine between Hallstatt A2 and La Tène D2. The focus is on the forms and functions of these settlements, and on the role they can play in studies of the organization of territories and societies. The study was carried out in three stages: firstly, a detailed review of the archaeological data, followed by a GIS-based characterization of the settlement patterns, culminating in a categorization synthesizing the observations made. The various categories obtained served as a basis for analyzing the evolution of the phenomenon over time. Finally, archaeological data and settlement patterns were compared, enabling an analysis of the spatial distribution of the height sites and a synthesis of all the results obtained, as well as their more global context in the evolution of protohistoric societies in the northern Alps.
