L'homilétique contemporaine (1970-2020), dans les mondes occidentaux, élargit la compréhension de la prédication, souvent perçue comme une « argumentation discursive » et un « acte ouï », alors que la tâche homilétique est déjà en soi un événement multidimensionnel. L'esthétique, notion qui recouvre le discours sur le « beau », la réflexion sur l'« art » et la connaissance « sensible », met en effet en tension le rapport de la prédication à l'image. La multiplicité des angles d'approche et leurs nombreuses interactions rendent compte de la richesse des dimensions esthétique et visuelle de la prédication contemporaine, tout autant que de leur dynamisme. La diversification des méthodes homilétiques à partir du renouveau homilétique américain depuis 1970 et leur rencontre avec l'art contemporain dans les mondes occidentaux témoignent d'une nouvelle orientation homilétique visant l'harmonie entre le fond et la forme, et redonnant la part belle aux aspects esthétique et visuel de la parole. Contemporary homiletics (1970-2020), in the Western world, broadens the understanding of preaching, often perceived as a "discursive argumentation" and a "hearing act", whereas the homiletic task is already in itself a multidimensional event. Aesthetics, a notion that covers discourse on "beauty", reflection on "art" and "sensory" knowledge, puts in tension the relationship between preaching and the image. The multiplicity of angles of approach and their numerous interactions account for the richness of the aesthetic and visual dimensions of contemporary preaching, as much as for their dynamism. The diversification of homiletic methods starting with the New Homiletics in 1970, and their encounter with contemporary art in the Western world testify to a new orientation of homiletics which aims at harmony between content and form, and at re-centering the focus on the aesthetic and visual aspects of the word.
