L’approche juridicoscientifique, favorisée par une certaine lecture de l’heuristique jonassienne de la peur, subordonne l’éthique du futur à la prédiction des effets à long terme de l’agir technique de l’humanité. Mais nous tenons que l’expérience de l’avenir menacé, en tant qu’expérience de souffrance, ouvre à la profondeur de l’enjeu de responsabilité pour les générations futures. Dans cette perspective, le problème philosophique de l’accomplissement de la liberté en un agir responsable se présente comme celui de la traversée de l’épreuve de souffrance engendrée par l’exercice du pouvoir technique moderne. En d’autres termes, l’agir responsable pour les générations futures serait l’acte d’habiter la Terre dans la civilisation technique. Describing the experience of the threatened future as an experience of suffering would open the possibility of taking the ethics of responsibility for future generations out of its reduction, on the one hand, to a heuristic method guided by scientific knowledge and, on the other hand, to legal measures to control modern technical power. The juridical-scientific approach, favored by a certain reading of the Jonasian heuristic of fear, subordinates the ethics of the future to the prediction of the long-term effects of the technical action of humanity. But we hold that the experience of the threatened future, as an experience of suffering, opens to the depth of the stake of responsibility for future generations. In this perspective, the philosophical problem of the accomplishment of freedom in a responsible action presents itself as that of the crossing of the ordeal of suffering engendered by the exercise of modern technical power. In other words, the responsible action for the future generations would be the act of inhabiting the Earth in the technical civilization.
