<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="fr">L’ancienneté et la méticulosité des compilations de l’Inde ancienne décrivant les rituels solennels (Śrauta-sūtras) n’ont laissé qu’une place historiographique réduite à l’étude des rituels domestiques. Cette étude propose une analyse de l’un des plus importants d’entre eux, le mariage, dans la perspective rituelle offerte par les compositions domestiques (Gṛhya-Sūtras). Le premier principe méthodologique posé est l’approche diachronique. Ainsi, la thèse s’ouvre sur une analyse textuelle des hymnes nuptiaux védiques, contenus dans le Ṛg-Véda et dans l’Atharvaveda. Après une analyse de leur contenu et des diverses stratégies rédactionnelles, une attention particulière est portée sur les indications que les hymnes fournissent quant à l’aspect rituel du cérémoniel nuptial. La construction d’un idéal-type du mariage permet de mesurer les évolutions dans le temps de chacun des rites, dès les hymnes nuptiaux jusque dans les Gṛhya-Sūtras afin de déterminer leurs évolutions, leurs causes ainsi que les tendances propres à chaque école (śākhā). Les rites sont analysés selon leurs modalités d’exécution, les formules qui les accompagnent et les différentes syntaxes rituelles dans lesquels ils s’incluent. Enfin, les tendances dégagées sont synthétisées et mises en parallèle avec le rituel de l’upanayana.</dcterms:abstract>
<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">The age and meticulousness of ancient Indian compilations describing solemn rituals (Śrauta-sūtras) have left little historiographical space for the study of domestic rituals. This study proposes an analysis of one of the most important of these, marriage, from the ritual perspective offered by domestic compositions (Gṛhya-Sūtras). The first methodological principle is the diachronic approach. The thesis opens with a textual analysis of the Vedic nuptial hymns contained in the Ṛg-Veda and the Atharvaveda. Following an analysis of their content and various redactional strategies, particular attention is paid to the indications the hymns provide regarding the ritual aspect of the nuptial ceremonial. The construction of an ideal-type of marriage makes it possible to measure the evolution over time of each of the rites, from the nuptial hymns right through to the Gṛhya-Sūtras, in order to determine their evolution, their causes as well as the trends specific to each school (śākhā). The rites are analyzed according to the way they are performed, the formulas that accompany them and the various ritual syntaxes in which they are included. Finally, the trends identified are synthesized and compared with the upanayana ritual.</dcterms:abstract>
