Ce travail examine ce que signifiait être patient d’un établissement psychiatrique en Alsace pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il interroge l’effet du vécu de la maladie sur le parcours de vie des personnes concernées et de leurs proches jusqu’à nos jours. Grâce à cinq biographies détaillées de patients, le point de vue des victimes de la psychiatrie nationale-socialiste devient le principe organisateur de ce récit ; le quotidien institutionnel est envisagé à travers leurs yeux.
This study examines what it meant to be a patient in a psychiatric institution in Alsace during the Second World War. It scrutinizes the effect of the experience of illness on the life of the people concerned and their families right up to the present day. Through five detailed biographies of patients, the point of view of the victims of National Socialist psychiatry becomes the organising principle of this narrative; everyday institutional life is seen through their eyes.
