La diversité des acteurs, des supports et des formes implique de revenir sur les conditions d’existence de l’œuvre dans un contexte de production économique et sociale. L’intérêt pratique que Colette porte à ses textes nous conduit à considérer effectivement la matérialité des ouvrages en question, et notamment les diverses éditions et rééditions illustrées, qui multiplient l’offre éditoriale et posent la question d’une réception différenciée. L’étude des mouvements éditoriaux permet de mieux comprendre la façon dont se forme une œuvre, en dépassant le fantasme littéraire d’une création autonome dégagée de contingences économiques de production et de diffusion. Par ailleurs, la présence de la figure de Colette dans le livre offre l’occasion d’interroger les ressorts d’une mise en scène auctoriale, inspirée par sa carrière au music-hall, ses déplacements dans l’écriture, et la réception biographique de l’œuvre par les illustrateurs qui font du livre une nouvelle scène de spectacle. L’intérêt pour les ensembles qui font de la figure de Colette un motif iconographique dans le livre permet de révéler un destin commun et de tracer une trajectoire éditoriale en images. Colette's work is one of the most widely illustrated of the first half of the twentieth century. The diversity of actors, media and forms means that we need to look again at the conditions of existence of the work in a context of economic and social production. Colette's practical interest in her texts leads us to consider the materiality of the works in question, and especially the various editions and illustrated reprints, which increase the editorial offer and raise the question of differentiated reception. Studying publishing trends, allows us to have a better understanding of the way in which a work takes shape, going beyond the literary fantasy of an autonomous creation free from the economic contingencies of production and distribution. In addition, the presence of Colette in her books provides an opportunity to study the forces behind an authorial staging, inspired by her career in the music hall, her shifts around writing, and the biographical reception of the work by the illustrators who turn the book into a new stage show. Our interest in the ensembles that use Colette as an iconographic motif in books reveals a common destiny and traces a publishing trajectory in images.
