A-t-elle pour but de poser un regard critique sur l’action ? Et enfin, peut-elle devenir elle-même action ? L’irruption des chansons développe aussi à l’intérieur même du texte un réseau d’associations, soit en éveillant une mémoire commune chez le spectateur, soit parce qu’elle semble donner des clés de signification cachée, soit parce qu’elle ouvre sur un hors-champ de l’espace théâtral lié aux mondes de l’enfance, du rituel, de l’histoire collective. Depuis la révolution industrielle et l’entrée de la musique enregistrée dans les foyers par l’entremise de la radio, la chanson est omniprésente dans nos vies. Utiliser les chansons dans l’écriture, c’est aussi jouer avec un élément de notre présent, l’intégrer à un discours théâtral pour dire des choses du monde contemporain, et des supports qui fixent nos récits et nos mémoires. Dans la lignée d’une interrogation sur une supposée « crise du drame » depuis le milieu du XXe siècle, la chanson apparaît comme un observatoire privilégié de la mise en crise du langage théâtral. Comment la présence de chansons nous fait-elle nous interroger sur le statut et la fonction du langage dramatique, et permet-elle de renouveler les poétiques dramatiques, à la fois dans leur forme et dans leur réception ? A travers un corpus d’écritures françaises (Durif, Melquiot, Kwahulé, Novarina, Kermann, Lescot, Py, Kalisky, Sonntag…), allemandes (Richter, Handke, Bernhard, Hilling, Loher, Schimmelpfennig) et britanniques (Crimp, Cartwright, Churchill, Bond, Ravenhill, Stoppard, Tempest), ce travail se propose de suivre la présence des chansons comme le signe d’une forme dramatique ouverte, à la poursuite de nouveaux territoires. In many contemporary dramatic texts, songs function as a red thread, and can take different forms: nursery rhymes, songs to introduce a character, “performance” between two lines of dialogue… Are songs a break in the dramatic action, or do they regenerate the action? Do they cast a critical look on action in drama? And on top of this, can they become a dramatic action by themselves? The irruption of songs tends also to create in the text a network of associations, either by waking a shared memory in the audience, or because they seem to give us hidden keys of understanding, or because they open on another scope, linked to the worlds of childhood, ritual, collective history. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution and the arrival of recorded music in our homes through radio, songs are everywhere in our lives. By using songs in their writing, dramatists also play with an element of our present times, and integrate it in their dramatic language to say things about our contemporary world, and about the way we tell our stories and fix our memories.Following the interrogation about an alleged “drama crisis” since the middle of the XXth century, songs seem to be a privileged observation area for this famous “crisis” of the dramatic language. How does the presence of songs call our idea of status and function of the dramatic language into question, and how can it renew the poetics of drama, in their form and their reception? Through a corpus of French (Durif, Melquiot, Kwahulé, Novarina, Kermann, Lescot, Py, Kalisky, Sonntag…), German (Richter, Handke, Bernhard, Hilling, Loher, Schimmelpfennig) and British playwrights (Crimp, Cartwright, Churchill, Bond, Ravenhill, Stoppard, Tempest), this work follows the presence of songs as a sign of an open dramatic form, looking for new poetic territories.
