On part en effet du constat selon lequel les artistes ont réagi de deux façons diamétralement opposées aux traumas historiques du siècle : soit en prônant la tabula rasa et l’invention de formes et de langages nouveaux, soit en s’appuyant sur la mémoire culturelle et la tradition (références à des courants artistiques du passé, intertextualité, citations, recours aux mythes...) C’est cette seconde piste, moins souvent étudiée, qu’il s’agit d’explorer à travers un corpus mixte, constitué d’œuvres de deux compositeurs, Philippe Hersant (né en 1948) et Olivier Greif (1950-2000), et de trois écrivains, Nelly Sachs (1891-1970), Philippe Jaccottet (1925-2021) et Pascal Quignard (né en 1948). Dès lors, il s’agira de montrer que dans des media distincts, aux régimes sémiotiques différents, des approches créatrices similaires sont mises en jeu pour traiter de thèmes communs. The aim of this thesis is to compare literary and musical works from the second half of the 20th century, focusing on two intersecting notions: the experience of loss and the work of memory. The starting point will be the observation that artists reacted in two diametrically opposed ways to the historical traumas of the century: either by advocating tabula rasa and the invention of new forms and languages, or by relying on cultural memory and tradition (references to artistic movements of the past, intertextuality, quotations, recourse to myths, etc.). It is this second, less-studied approach that we will explore through a hybrid corpus of works by two composers, Philippe Hersant (born 1948) and Olivier Greif (1950-2000), and three writers, Nelly Sachs (1891-1970), Philippe Jaccottet (1925-2021) and Pascal Quignard (born 1948). The aim is to show that in distinct media with different semiotic regimes, similar creative approaches are used to address common themes.
