Elles enregistrent l’arrivée des premiers produits magmatiques lors de l’océanisation et constituent ainsi de véritables archives spatio-temporelles de la rupture continentale et l’initiation de l’accrétion océanique. Pourtant, les études des marges riftées peu magmatiques sont limitées à quelques rares endroits géographiques dont les marges actuelles conjuguées d’Ibérie-Terre-Neuve et les paléo-marges téthysiennes présentes dans les Alpes. Cette thèse explore les processus complexes de la transition entre la lithosphère continentale et la lithosphère océanique au niveau de la zone Diamantine, marge passive pauvre en magma située au sud-ouest de l’Australie. Les résultats s’appuient sur des données pétrologiques et géochimiques issues de l’analyse d’échantillons dragués par les campagnes MD80 et MD110. Ils permettent de souligner l’importance de l’héritage mantellique dans la formation de ces zones, tant sur le budget magmatique des marges pauvres en magma que sur la nature des produits magmatiques émis, ainsi que des processus d’interactions liquides magmatiques et roche (i.e. refertilisation). Rifted margins represent the intraplate transition between a continental lithospheric domain and an oceanic lithospheric domain. They record the first occurrence of magmatic products during oceanization and are therefore exceptional space-time archives recording continental breakup and onset of seafloor spreading. However, studies of magma-poor rifted margins are limited to a few geographical locations, including the present-day conjugate Iberia and Newfoundland rifted margins and the Tethyan paleomargins exposed the Alps in Western Europe. This thesis explores the complex processes involved in the transition from continental to oceanic lithosphere in the Diamantina Zone, a magma-poor rifted margin in south-western Australia. The results are based on petrological and geochemical data derived from the analysis of samples dredged during the MD80 and MD110 campaigns and highlight the importance of the mantle inheritance during crustal breakup and formation of new oceanic crust, both in terms of the effect on the magma budget of magma-poor rifted margins and the nature of the magma products released, as well as the processes of magma-liquid-rock interactions (i.e. refertilisation).
