À partir de ces œuvres de rupture, cette thèse examine l’évolution des techniques d’écriture pour voix et instruments à vent au cours du xxe siècle en Europe. D’abord, le répertoire de la première moitié du siècle est analysé. Ensuite, nous traitons du moment charnière qui suit la création des Sequenze, de l’écriture « du son » de Lachenmann, jusqu’au théâtre musical de Vinko Globokar. Enfin, nous établissons une typologie à l’appui d’un corpus de plusieurs dizaines d’œuvres. Quatre paradigmes catégorisent notre corpus : l’idée de fusion/résonance entre la voix et l’instrument, l’instrumentalisation de la voix / la vocalisation de l’instrument, l’usage de sons bruités, et la « polyphonie d’action ». Quatre analyses d’œuvres illustrent ces quatre paradigmes : Un lieu verdoyant (1998) de Philippe Leroux, For O. (1988) de Pascal Dusapin, Auf tönernen Füssen (2001-2002) de Beat Furrer et Staglio (2013) de Pierluigi Billone. Luciano Berio’s Sequenza III for solo voice and Sequenza V for solo trombone (1965–66) mark a decisive turning point in the writing for both voice and wind instruments. Building on these seminal works, this PhD thesis traces the evolution of compositional techniques for winds and voice in 20th century Europe. The study begins with an analysis of the repertoire from the first half of the century, before focusing on the crucial shift inaugurated by the Sequenze, from Lachenmann’s “writing of sound” to the music theater of Vinko Globokar. Based on a corpus comprising several dozen works, this thesis proposes a typology structured around four paradigms: the fusion and resonance of voice and instrument, the instrumentalization of the voice and vocalization of the instrument, the use of noise-based sounds, and “action polyphony”. These paradigms are exemplified through four case studies: Philippe Leroux’s Un lieu verdoyant (1998), Pascal Dusapin’s For O. (1988), Beat Furrer’s Auf tönernen Füssen (2001-2002), and Pierluigi Billone’s Staglio (2013).
