Pour la première fois est proposée ici une analyse globale de son œuvre (Rettorica, Trésor, Tesoretto et les volgarizzamenti de trois oraisons cicéroniennes), afin de comprendre la cohérence et l’unité de ces écrits, malgré la diversité apparente de leurs contextes de composition. Entre l’exil en France et le retour à Florence, sa ville natale, la thèse explore la façon dont Latini a élaboré un projet éducatif et politique se voulant pérenne, articulant théorie et pratique, philosophie et politique, pensée et action, et a ainsi pu s’imposer comme un penseur original du XIIIe siècle. This thesis examines Brunetto Latini’s classification as a new kind of « intellectual » and situates it within the historiographical context of the first attempts to popularize knowledge for a lay audience in 13th-century communal Italy. For the first time, a comprehensive analysis of his work (Rettorica, Tresor, Tesoretto and the volgarizzamenti of three Cicero’s orations) is offered here, in order to understand the coherence and unity of these writings, despite the apparent diversity of their contexts of composition. Between his exile in France and his return to Florence, his native city, the thesis explores how Latini developed an educational and political project intended to be enduring, articulating theory and practice, philosophy and politics, thought and action, and thus establishing himself as an original thinker of the 13th century.
