Dans ce contexte, deux groupes d’éleveurs de rennes appartenant au peuple autochtone sámi demandent la reconnaissance de leurs droits de propriété et d’usage sur l’île de Stjernøya, située à 500 km au nord du cercle polaire arctique. S’ensuit une bataille judiciaire qui aboutit au rejet par la Cour suprême norvégienne en 2016 de la requête des éleveurs. Basée sur une cartographie SIG et Heurist du corpus documentaire produit durant cette affaire, cette étude analyse les tensions sous-tendant la construction du réseau de savoirs partagés concernant l’usage immémorial – donc traditionnel – de Stjernøya par les éleveurs de rennes. Les résultats révèlent le rôle fondamental du nexus pouvoir-savoir à travers la narration du conflit avec les activités minières présentes sur l’île comme justification du droit à la terre des éleveurs, ainsi que la multidimensionnalité des processus d’hybridation à travers le motif du renne. With the adoption of the Finnmark Act and the establishment of the Finnmark Commission in 2005, the Norwegian State initiated a survey of land rights acquired through immemorial usage. In this context, two groups of reindeer herders belonging to the indigenous Sámi people sought recognition of their property and usage rights over Stjernøya Island, located 500 km north of the Arctic Circle. A legal battle ensued, culminating in the Norwegian Supreme Court’s rejection of the herders’ application in 2016. Based on a GIS and Heurist mapping of the documentary corpus produced during this case; this study analyzes the tensions underlying the construction of the shared knowledge network concerning the immemorial—and thus traditional—use of Stjernøya by reindeer herders. The findings of the study reveal the fundamental role of the power-knowledge nexus through the narration of the conflict with mining activities present on the island as justification for the herders’ land rights, as well as the multidimensional nature of hybridization processes through the reindeer motif.
