L’objectif de cette thèse est de comprendre certains mécanismes psychosociaux qui sous-tendent la tendance des Français à se montrer critique face à leur système politique. Le premier objectif de cette thèse est de comprendre comment cette délégitimation du système politique prend forme en prenant appui sur la théorie de justification du système. A partir de 5 études menées auprès d’échantillons variés, nous montrons que les stéréotypes à l’égard des personnalités politiques peuvent constituer un levier de délégitimation du système politique en France. Un second objectif était d’explorer les raisons de cette contestation qui pourrait reposer sur une sorte de « culture de contestation » enracinée dans l’Histoire de la France. A partir de 3 études menées en France et en Allemagne, nous montrons que la contestation du système politique tend à être perçue comme normative spécifiquement en France. In recent years, the French political landscape has been marked by increasing levels of contestation. This doctoral thesis aims to investigate the psychosocial mechanisms underlying French citizens’ propensity to express criticism toward their political system. The first objective is to examine how the delegitimization of the political system takes shape, drawing on System Justification Theory. Through five studies conducted among diverse samples, we demonstrate that (negative) stereotypes about political figures can serve as a mechanism for delegitimizing the political system in France. A second objective is to explore the roots of this political contestation, which may be linked to a historically embedded “culture of dissent” specific to France. Based on three comparative studies conducted in France and Germany, our findings suggest that political contestation is more likely to be perceived as normative in the French context.
