Jusqu’à 70 000 soldats sont engagés dans le bassin industriel afin d’assurer les livraisons au titre des réparations. La mission des ingénieurs et la régie des chemins de fer parviennent à prélever le charbon, malgré la résistance allemande. Dernier acte de la Grande Guerre, la Ruhrbesetzung a finalement amené une amélioration des relations franco-allemandes. Si en Allemagne la commémoration du centenaire a été importante, l’événement est presque oublié en France. Cette recherche entend apporter un nouvel éclairage en mettant à contribution les sources locales et les cartes postales militaires. À travers l’expérience quotidienne des soldats et des habitant des villes occupées, les relations entre militaires et civils apparaissent complexes, ne se réduisant ni à une guerre continuée, ni à une démobilisation culturelle. The occupation of the Ruhr Basin by French and Belgian troops began on 11th January 1923. Up to 70.000 soldiers were sent into the industrial area to ensure the provisioning according to war reparations. The mission of engineers and the railway succeeded in extracting the coal despite German resistance. As a last upheaval of the First World War, the Ruhrbesetzung eventually gave way to an improvement of Franco-German relations. While the commemoration of the centenary carried some importance in Germany, the event has been all but forgotten in France. This research purports to shed a new light by incorporating local sources and military post cards. Through the everyday experiences of soldiers and inhabitants of the occupied cities, the relationship between the members of the armed forces and civilians appears as complex and can be reduced neither to a continued war nor to a cultural demobilisation.
