<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="fr">Le continuum sol-plante-atmosphère est essentiel aux cycles de l’eau, du carbone et de l’énergie, mais il est fortement perturbé par le changement climatique, affectant ressources en eau et forêts. Pourtant, les représentations classiques de la végétation dans les modèles peinent généralement à représenter le stress hydrique, car elles négligent le rôle du transport hydraulique au sein des plantes. La thèse développe SoVegI, un modèle unidimentionnel du continuum qui simule explicitement et efficacement le transport hydraulique dans la végétation. Cette approche permet de relier directement l’état hydrique des plantes à la régulation stomatique et au prélèvement racinaire, offrant une vision mécaniste du stress hydrique. Validé sur données synthétiques et réelles (site de Hesse, 15 ans), SoVegI démontre sa capacité à représenter les échanges d’eau et de carbone et ouvre des perspectives de modélisation des écosystèmes forestiers en contexte de changement climatique.</dcterms:abstract>
<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">The soil-plant-atmosphere continuum is essential to the water, carbon, and energy cycles, but it is strongly disrupted by climate change, impacting water resources and forests. However, classical representations of vegetation in models often struggle to capture water stress because they overlook the role of hydraulic transport within plants.This thesis develops SoVegI, a one-dimensional model of the continuum that explicitly and efficiently simulates hydraulic transport in vegetation. This approach directly links the hydraulic status of plants to stomatal regulation and root water uptake, providing a mechanistic understanding of water stress. Validated using synthetic and real-world data (Hesse site, 15 years), SoVegI demonstrates its ability to represent water and carbon exchanges and opens new perspectives for modeling forest ecosystems in the context of climate change.</dcterms:abstract>
