Cette question dépasse l'approche topologique (topographie, nature du sol et du climat, dimensions de la parcelle, etc.) relativement commune à tous les architectes, pour intéresser les fondements intellectuels spécifiques de la démarche de conception architecturale. L'hypothèse émise est que l'architecte tente de manière récurrente d'inscrire une vision personnelle du monde au coeur de son architecture, au sens où il donne plus ou moins consciemment à l'acte architectural une dimension politique et militante. Cette intention guide de manière constante le projet, mais c'est la rencontre avec le lieu du projet qui en donne la teneur et l'ampleur. Ainsi, avant d'établir un projet d'architecture, l'architecte développe une idée spatialisée du monde, l'expression d'un projet politique, social et/ou culturel. Ce concept, entre l'idée et le projet, est nommé ici l'idée architecturale. Du point de vue de la phénoménologie de la perception, il apparait que le lieu est toujours lu à travers un filtre culturel et personnel. En ce sens, le lieu est décrypté par l'architecte comme la source et le support possible d'une démonstration politique, sociale et/ou culturelle, comme un moyen de matérialisation d'une idée, de la transmission d'un message. Récurrente dans l'histoire de l'architecture (le rapport des lieux du pouvoir au monde en est une illustration), cette attitude semble cependant singulière au XXème siècle, siècle où l'architecture parait emprunter, plus qu'à toute autre période, de voies complexes et novatrices et interroger ainsi plus singulièrement les rapports qu'elle entretient avec le lieu. The thesis deals with the nature of the relations between the place and the architectural project. This issue goes beyond the topological analysis (topography, type of ground and climate, size of the parcel... ) that is shared by most architects. It deals with the specifie intellectual foundations of the process of architectural design. Theoretically that the architect goes on trying to insert a personal vision of the world in his architecture, more or less aware of giving a political and militant dimension to the architectural act of designing. This aim constantly guides the project but it reaches its full scale and content when it meets the place of the project. 50, before designing an architectural project, the architect develops a spatialized idea of the world as the expression of a political, social and/or cultural project. This concept which lies between the idea and the project is ca lied here the architectural idea . From the point of view of the phenomenology of the perception, it seems that the place is always seen through a personal and cultural filter. So the place is read by the architect as the source of a political, social and/or cultural demonstration and the possible medium for this demonstration. It is seen as the medium through which an idea can be expressed or a message transmitted. Though this attitude was common in the history of architecture, as shown by the places of power in the world, it seems to characterize the twentieth century. More than ever, architecture seems to follow innovative and complex paths and so to question more singularly the relations it bears to the place.
