The scientific literature provides arguments in favor of bibliotherapy in mental health. This work aims to collect and analyze the experience of bipolar patients regarding their practice of bibliotherapy integrated into psychoeducation. The objective is to explore whether bibliotherapy can constitute a complementary therapeutic tool in the management of bipolar disorders in adults. Material and method : A qualitative study was conducted according to an approach inspired by inductive thematic analysis. Six semi-structured interviews were carried out with patients who had participated in a psychoeducation program for bipolar disorders during which bibliotherapy was offered to them. The interviews were recorded, fully transcribed, and anonymized. Data analysis, carried out without the use of coding software, made it possible to identify subthemes grouped into main themes, revealing the richness and complexity of the participants’ experience. The study received favorable approval from the ethics committee. Results : The proposed prescriptive bibliotherapy, integrated into psychoeducation, offers bipolar patients a reading space that engages emotions, reflection, and symbols, going far beyond simple distraction. It can enable identification with the narratives, thus promoting better understanding and acceptance of the illness. Reading acts both as a cathartic tool, helping to express and understand one’s emotions, and as a source of practical and useful information for daily life. Bibliotherapy can help to break isolation and reduce stigmatization through social connection. Despite cognitive difficulties that may be linked to the illness and hinder reading, it can also stimulate these abilities, constituting both an effort and cognitive support, while promoting patients’ empowerment. Its appropriation and engagement depend on factors such as cognitive abilites, support, and accessiblity of books. Patients want a flexible and adapted framework, making bibliotherapy a useful and personalized complement to psychoeducation to better manage their disorder on a daily basis. Conclusion : Without replacing existing approaches, bibliotherapy enriches them by opening an additional space in which to think, feel, understand, and support the therapeutic process differently. The exploration of patients’ experiences and perceptions through this qualitative research reveals the need to design flexible, accessible, and adapted programs suited to each individual’s rhythm, abilities, and preferences, in order to promote patient engagement in the practice of bibliotherapy
