Description : International and European Business, This case study aims to address the issue of reducing expatriation costs. In this case, we will address the following research question: To what extent digital expatriation can be an alternative to traditional expatriation? Digital expatriation was analyzed based on a qualitative research. To realize the qualitative research and receive the personal feelings of professionals, we have decided to do two interviews. Then, to increase the reliability for the whole case study, other source of information on the same topic was found in the article: “Building Virtual Teams: Strategies For High Performance” that has been published in the business magazine Forbes. The article and the interviews completed each other and gave us a comprehensive view of both the main advantages and challenges of virtual teams. The two sources agreed on the fact that this process would still increase and evolve as the technology does. The qualitative research method was subjective. However, it gave a relevant and interesting overview of the new methods used on the increasing demanding market place, with the focus put on virtual team. The case offers different starting points for discussion about the use of virtual team within organizations on the long term. The case is designed to give practitioners a better understanding on what a virtual team is, and how to make an effective used of it. This case, which focuses mainly on digital expatriation, understands the link between the use of virtual teams and the costs they inflict on the company in the widest sense. It serves as an example of how to make an effective use of virtual teams within the global marketplace. Hence, the case offers interesting lessons learned for scholars as well as for practitioners.
