Description : Wine Management and Tourism, Due to a particular history and some specific characteristics of French consumers, South African wines are today exported to France mainly as low-end wines. This is not particularly a problem except the fact South Africa (SA) also has lots of high quality wines and is fighting to enter the French market. As Spain or Italy, SA should have a place in French wine consumption of premium wine. Nevertheless, it seems that on both sides it exists difficulties to increase the part of quality wines in the import/export. We do think that these wines deserve and should have a better visibility and a greater place on the wine French market. The goal of this case-study is to figure out what can be the barriers for SA wine producers to sell more in value than in volume, in opposite of today’s trends. As observed through our researches and interviews, there is a significant wish on both side to develop this business of premium wine from SA. That is why we are trying to give SA producers and French HCR/Wine merchants keys to achieve better sales for these particular wines. We chose HCR and wine merchants channels as it is probably the best channel to sell high-quality product compared to classic retail. It also seems that it is more convenient for small/medium producers to go through these channels. As you understand, the study got two main objectives, understand the obstacles faced by South-African quality wine on the French market and try to give advices to both side of the export to surpass these obstacles. Through these objectives, we believe in the usefulness and the rationality of our work.
