Description : International and European Business, Our purpose is to contribute to the impact of digitalization on mobility in the business world, with a particular look on virtual expatriation, essentially how modern tools influence communication between intercultural partners. This case study focuses on the comprehension of new working relationships, from corporeal to virtual. We interviewed 14 people from various industries working worldwide in order to obtain and analyze results from interviews. The results show that virtual expatriation is a new method of collaboration. Due to companies’ digital transformation, this collective working method becomes more popular for all its advantages, it saves money and is less time consuming. Virtual expatriation is a solution for lengthened projects. However, whereas an expatriate gets accustomed to the culture, a virtual expatriate and his partners must accommodate themselves to an intercultural communication with different perspectives from both sides. Besides, findings indicate a correlation between technical competences and the success of a virtual expatriation, the more a person is competent in his/her own field, the more the virtual work relationship is facilitated and culture differences are not interfering. Virtual expatriation, to some extent, would be facilitated and deliver benefits for companies.
