In these circumstances, firms are facing tough times, and in order to survive, they must rethink their strategy. There are two choices: either focusing on the main activity or looking for opportunities to create new incomes and benefits. This thesis is dealing with the case of Girard Hervouet company, a firm specialized in steel construction which belongs to the SOPREMA company. GH has chosen to launch a new product, GH modular system. This decision aims at establishing its notoriety within the steel construction market. In order to conduct a successful marketing strategy, an important research and development plan should be put in place. Moreover, the company should choose a well-defined market segment and make its product stand out. How should such positioning be created and defined? How is the positioning determining the competitive advantage? What market categories should it target? This product is a tridimensional cell, which, put together, gives a complete, removable and modular construction. The company's interest for the modular construction market began when a client wanted removable and modular structures for his stores. GH was able to present a valuable solution. The modular construction market is expanding and getting the attention of many owners for its products' relevance and flexible use. They can be used for all building categories; for hospitals, nurseries, stores and housing too. Which category does the GH Modular system suit the most? A new marketing strategy needs research and development, so as to create a relevant product, able to gain a competitive advantage. First, an analysis is conducted about the firm and its environment. Then the next step is to understand the market where the product is launched and which positioning it could take in order to gain an advantage. The aim of this analysis is not to be a marketing survey, but to give conclusions about the positioning of a new product, in order to help the company plan its future activity.
