Description : Santé publique. In France, consumption of antibiotics is increasing in primary care. An American study has shown the effectiveness of a public engagement through a poster-sized message, based on the nudging method, in reducing unnecessary antibiotic prescription. A randomized single-blind controlled trial was conducted among general practitioners established in Alsace. In the fall of 2017, an innovative strategy with a poster-mediated proposal was tested in the nudge group. The control group had a routine intervention of French National Health Insurance with the delivery of an activity profile. Between the 2016 and 2017 winters, the adjusted rate of consultations leading to prescription of an antibiotic decreased from 15.5% to 13.4% (- 2.1 points) for the control group, and from 16.1% to 14.3% (-1.9 point) for the nudge group, an evolution difference of 0.3 point (95% credible interval : -2.0 to 2.6). The poster strategy could be a tool among others to enforce a reasoned use of antibiotics.
